DARLINGTON, S.C. (AP) — Travis Pastrana says he was plenty scared during his practice laps as a NASCAR racer at Darlington Raceway.

The X-Games champion and motorcross star is competing in his second career Nationwide Series event on Friday night. Pastrana made his debut at Richmond last month and finished 22nd. He said he’s never raced a track that kept pushing the car up closer to the wall on every lap.

Pastrana struggled during his practice laps and spun around twice. He didn’t hit the wall, however, and is hopeful he learned some things about handling Darlington before the race.

He also has been an X-Games medalist, raced monster trucks, competed in supercross, RallyCross, the 24-hour race at Daytona, several international events and starred in an extreme-stunt series called “Nitro Circus.”
