NEW YORK (AP) — Daniele Meucci won the Healthy Kidney 10K race on Saturday, the first Italian champion of the event in Central Park.

He finished in 28 minutes, 28 seconds, using a final sprint to edge Leonard Korir by 2 seconds. Bobby Curtis was third in 28:37.

Three Americans on the Olympic Marathon team used the race as a tuneup. Abdi Abdirahman was fifth (28:56); Meb Keflezighi was seventh (29:08) and Ryan Hall finished 15th (30:15).

Keflezighi won the U.S. Olympic marathon trials in Houston in January and the 2009 New York City Marathon.

“I hope to keep up the pace to London,” Keflezighi said. “It’s going to come down to being as fit as I can be.”

Korir, who made his pro racing debut, graduated from Iona College on Saturday with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
