SEATTLE (AP) — Kathi Goertzen, the popular former Seattle KOMO-TV news anchorwoman, has been battling brain tumors since 1998, and recently underwent her ninth surgery.
The Seattle Times says (http://bit.ly/Jbm675) the tumors have taken parts of her vision, hearing and speech, and away from the anchor job she adored for nearly 30 years. They’ve robbed her of her ability to eat and drink, and destroyed the nerves on the right side of her face.
But nothing can take the 54-year-old’s inner strength and resilience. Her neurosurgeon says Goertzen already has outlived most with her type of tumors.
Goertzen is trying a new chemotherapy drug, and in online interview with KOMO before her last surgery she says she hopes “I can hang on long enough” to find a cure.
