EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — Kimberly-Clark is selling its 66-acre property in Everett, Wash., after the company closed its pulp-paper mill last month.
The Herald (http://bit.ly/K8nIyf) reports the Port of Everett is considering buying the waterfront property.
Company spokesman Bob Brand says multiple potential buyers have expressed interest.
The property has access to a deep-water channel on Puget Sound, a wharf, a railroad, truck access and a huge, dedicated water supply pipeline. But there’s concern over years of industrial use, even though the state is requiring the company to clean it up.
Ecology’s Seth Preston tells the Seattle Times (http://bit.ly/LGb6SD ) there’s no immediate risk from the site.
Kimberly Clark produced paper towels and disposable diapers there.
