JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — Joint Base Lewis-McChord is holding a memorial service Wednesday for a soldier who was killed April 30 in Afghanistan.

The Army said 23-year-old Sgt. Nicholas M. Dickhut of Rochester, Minn., died from wounds sustained when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.

He was a member of the 3rd Stryker Brigade that deployed in December and was attached to the 82nd Airborne Division as a forward observer.
