Elections officials ship redistricting notices

The Clark County Elections Department sent more than 68,000 voter registration identification cards this week to voters who had one or more of their voting districts or their voting precinct change.

The redistricting was prompted by the release of the 2010 U.S. Census results. In addition to state legislative redistricting, the Clark County commissioners, port district commissioners and Clark Public Utility District commissioners all approved redistricting changes in 2011.

Also last year, state lawmakers decided all precincts should have no more than 1,500 registered voters. That new law resulted in 28 new precincts in Clark County.
