ARUSHA, Tanzania (AP) — Rwanda midfielder and former national team captain Patrick Mafisango has died in a car crash in Tanzania. He was 32.

Mafisango’s death early Thursday morning was confirmed by his Tanzanian club, Simba Sports Club.

State television station TBC said Mafisango died when the car he was driving crashed into a tree in the country’s main city and commercial capital Dar es Salaam. Four passengers reportedly survived the accident.

Mafisango had been selected in Rwanda’s squad for a World Cup qualifier against Algeria next month.

Ezekiel Kamwaga, spokesman for Tanzania champion Simba, said Mafisango’s body would be flown to neighboring Congo, where he was born, for burial on the wishes of his family.
