LOS ANGLES (AP) — Dutchman Robert Gesink, eight months after breaking his leg in a training accident, has won the Tour of California.

Gesink finished among the pack in Sunday’s eighth and final stage to seal the victory. The 25-year-old Rabobank rider beat Dave Zabriskie by 46 seconds for the title after claiming the mountainous and decisive seventh stage.

The final stage was won by Peter Sagan of Slovakia. Sagan, who rides for the Liquigas-Canondale team, claimed the 42.6-mile road race from Beverly Hills to downtown Los Angeles with a late burst to take his fifth stage of the race in 1 hours, 27 minutes, 36 seconds.

Zabriskie, a six-time national time trial titlist and former leader of the Tour de France, finished second in the event for the fourth time.

Tom Danielson finished third for the second straight year, 54 seconds behind.
