Letter: Gay-marriage trend is obvious

Many people argue that same-sex marriage should not be legal.

Many say that children of same-sex couples would be damaged, but studies prove that children raised by same-sex parents are just as well-adjusted and psychologically healthy as children raised by heterosexual parents. The damage is done by society telling them that their parents don’t have the right to marry.

People also argue that marriage is a religious matter, a holy bond, but in the past, marriage was a way to end conflict between two tribes or nations by marrying a son and daughter from each group.

Same-sex marriage might also raise the number of marriages in Washington state, giving an economic boost this state needs.

Same-sex marriage is already legal in New York, Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Vermont, the District of Columbia, and now Washington state. It’s time the rest of America joins these states.
