Search continues for body in North Santiam River

GATES, Ore. (AP) -- The Linn County sheriff's office continues to search Monday for the body of a 5-year-old boy in the North Santiam River near Gates.

The boy fell into the river Friday while his father was fishing at Niagara Park. His father, Jacob Allen, and another man, Eric Johnson, jumped in to rescue the boy. The 23-year-old Allen made it out.

Johnson and 5-year-old Anthony Berlin were swept away. Divers found the body of the 22-year-old Keizer man. Searches over the weekend were unsuccessful in finding the boy's body.

The area is about 40 miles east of Salem.
