FIFE, Wash. (AP) — Police in Fife, Wash., have arrested a woman accused of leaving her 3-year-old son alone in a motel room for several hours while she gambled at a casino.
Lt. Tom Thompson says police responded to a motel after staff said a man showed up about 5:30 a.m. Monday and asked for access to a room. They refused since he wasn’t registered. Thompson says the man then told the staff his girlfriend’s young son was alone in the room and he wanted to check on the child.
The boy was sleeping and unhurt. Child Protective Services has taken custody.
Officers found the 22-year-old mother at the Emerald Queen Casino. She was arrested for investigation of child abandonment.
Fife is a suburb of Tacoma.
