Deadline for new Pierce County rescue boat
Monday, May 21, 2012
TACOMA, Wash. (AP) -- The Pierce County sheriff's office has the money for a new patrol and rescue boat, but it may not have the time.
The department expects to spend $730,000 for a 35-foot boat to replace the boat that sank last summer while docked in Tacoma.
The News Tribune reports (http://is.gd/s8y35s) most of the money -- $525,000 -- comes from a Homeland Security grant with a June 2013 deadline.
The sheriff's department is looking for a builder who can design and build the boat in a year.
