Woods insists he's close to regularly contending

BETHESDA, Md. (AP) -- Tiger Woods insists he is close to contending on a weekly basis, even if recent results suggest otherwise.

Woods held a news conference at Congressional Country Club to promote the AT&T National in late June, the tournament that benefits his charitable foundation.

Woods says he thinks he's "headed in the right direction."

Woods broke a long drought on the PGA Tour with a victory this season, but he's had poor results recently.

He missed the cut in Charlotte sandwiched around 40th-place finishes at the Masters and Players Championship.
