DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani intelligence officials say a U.S. drone has fired two missiles at a compound in northwest Pakistan and killed four suspected militants.

The officials say Wednesday’s attack took place in Datta Khel town in the North Waziristan tribal area. The specific identities of the suspected militants were not known, but the town is a stronghold of the Haqqani network.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Drone strikes have become an increasingly contentious issue between the U.S. and Pakistan.

Pakistan’s parliament recently demanded the U.S. end all drone strikes in Pakistan. But the U.S. has made it clear that it has no intention of stopping the covert CIA program.
