EVERETT, Wash. (AP) — A Lynnwood, Wash.-area man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for killing his wife with multiple gunshots on April 15, 2011.

At Tuesday’s sentencing, Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Eric Lucas described the death of Cristy Larsen as a crime of passion fueled by anger. The victim was seeking to end her marriage to Bart Larsen, who pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Prosecutors say he returned from a night of drinking beer with friends and shot her eight times.

The Daily Herald reports (http://is.gd/SdagFn ) that Edmonds police found Bart Larsen more than seven miles away, slumped over the wheel of his pickup truck. He’d ingested a large amount of over-the-counter medication and was comatose for several days.

Detectives found what appeared to be an apology note written by the defendant in the couple’s house.
