Letter: Felida is not Mars

The Columbian
Published: May 22, 2012, 5:00pm

I read the May 18 Columbian editorial “Work here? Live here: Local residency requirement is a tough but fair one for city department heads” regarding Vancouver’s City Manager Eric Holmes and the rules on working where you live if you are a city leader. I am a little confused. Like Holmes, I live in the Felida area myself and my address shows Vancouver as the city I live in. I have been getting mail there for over six years. I am within five miles of downtown … someplace I frequent almost every single week … and yet, I feel like we are foreigners to the city because we are technically outside the city limits. How is it that we are located closer to downtown, and yet, someone who lives on 164th or 192nd avenues (and much farther from downtown) is considered within city limits?

Seems like the planning for the city of Vancouver was not well thought out many years ago. It’s just not right in my opinion.
