TIGARD, Ore. (AP) — Police and fire officials say one man is dead after a fire at an apartment complex in the Portland suburb of Tigard.
Fire crews were able to pull the unidentified victim out of the Hawthorne Villa Apartments late Thursday afternoon but he did not survive.
A Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue spokesman estimated the victim was about 65 years old.
Investigators say the fire was accidental. The fire spokesman says it started in a bed, likely because of smoker carelessness.
Another person was treated for smoke inhalation.
