NEW YORK (AP) — Fordham University promoted Athletic Director Frank McLaughlin and will be looking for a new AD for the first time in nearly 30 years.

It was announced Thursday that McLaughlin will become associate vice president of student affairs for athletic alumni relations and external affairs and athletic director emeritus on July 1, 2012.

McLaughlin took over as athletic director at his alma mater in 1985. He went to Fordham after eight seasons as head basketball coach at Harvard.

Last year Fordham ranked 18th in the country among NCAA Academic Progress Rates.

The school said it will conduct a national search for McLaughlin’s replacement.
