Restoration workers Thursday diligently prepared Who Song & Larry’s Cantina for a Friday reopening, just four days after a two-alarm fire broke out in the popular waterfront restaurant.

The fire broke out Monday afternoon at the Mexican restaurant at 111 S.E. Columbia Way.

Restaurant General Manager Chris Lankford said he expects to reopen the ground floor and the patio at 11 a.m. Friday. Lankford said he doesn’t know when the fire-damaged upstairs space, often used for parties, will reopen.

The fire, which started in the building’s attic, was caused by an electrical malfunction isolated to lighting equipment, said Vancouver Fire Marshal Dave Smith.

Structural damage is estimated at $40,000. Vancouver Firefighter Joe Spatz said one sprinkler activated in the attic, and five more in the upstairs kitchen and bar.
