CHICAGO (AP) — Olympic champion Nastia Liukin has tied for third on balance beam in her first competition since 2009.
Liukin scored a 14.9 at the U.S. Classic on Saturday night, finishing 0.10 points behind reigning world champion Jordyn Weiber and Aly Raisman. The routine earned Liukin a spot at the U.S. championships next month in St. Louis, where she plans to add uneven bars. The Olympic trials are June 28 to July 1 in San Jose, Calif.
Raisman, a member of the U.S. squad that won the team title at the world championships last fall, won her second straight Classic title. Her score of 60.35 was more than a half-point ahead of Kyla Ross.
Wieber only competed on beam and uneven bars.
