CENTRALIA, Wash. (AP) — The Thurston County coroner says a 2-year-old Centralia, Wash., girl died of blunt force trauma to the head and drowning.

Thursday’s death of little Koralynn Fister has been ruled a homicide. Her mother’s boyfriend, 25-year-old James Reeder of Centralia, has been arrested for investigation of first-degree murder, with bail set at $5 million.

Court documents filed Friday say investigators believe the girl was the victim of “prolonged, severe abuse” that likely included rape. The abuse is believed to have happened after a medical checkup the girl received in April.

The state Department of Social and Health Services says it has no record of any abuse or neglect allegations against the girl’s mother or the boyfriend.

An older sister has been taken into protective custody.
