MONTPELLIER, France (AP) -- Britain held on to edge Russia and clinch the team title at the European men's gymnastics championships Saturday.
Kristian Thomas did not falter on the horizontal bar and helped Britain preserve its slim lead over Russia.
Britain improved on its runner-up finish two years ago in Birmingham and showed its first-place finish in Thursday's qualifying was no fluke by scoring 266.296 points.
Russia took the silver medal with 265.535 points and Romania was third with 261.319.
Britain has turned around its fortunes after placing 10th in the world championships last October in Tokyo, finishing behind Germany, Russia, Romania and Ukraine and needing to compete in a test event in January to qualify for the London Olympics.
