MADRID (AP) — Nicola Sprig of Switzerland won her second world series triathlon — and second in Madrid — by breaking away in a sprint finish in the last 400 meters Saturday.

Sprig came out of Casa de Campo lake 20 seconds behind the lead group but caught up on the cycle leg. She began the run in a group of seven, and four were left meters from the end.

Sprig beat Aileen Morrison of Ireland home by three seconds, and Barbara Riveros Diaz of Chile by five. Riveros Diaz was competing in her first Olympic distance since October. Anne Haug of Germany missed the podium by three seconds but secured an Olympic spot.
