Georgia Tech tops Miami for ACC title

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Mott Hyde homered and Sam Dove had three of Georgia Tech’s 15 hits as the Yellow Jackets topped Miami 8-5 on Sunday to become the first No. 8 seed to win the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.

Georgia Tech (36-24) breezed through the tournament with four wins and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. No. 6 seed Miami (36-21) was selected as a host site for the 64-team tournament, meaning the Hurricanes also earned a spot in the regionals.

Jarrett Didrick (2-0) was the winner in relief for Georgia Tech, while Zane Evans collected his sixth save. Starter Josh Heddinger went two-plus innings, allowing a three runs, two earned.

Miami starter Javi Salas (6-3) lasted just 1 1/3 innings, giving up six hits and five runs, four earned. The Hurricanes had just five hits, including a solo homer by Michael Broad.
