I read the May 25 Columbian story, "$700K gift helps fight childhood poverty," about the Gates Foundation awarding a $700,000 grant to the Community Foundation of Southwest Washington.
The objective of the grant will be to allow this organization to determine the greatest needs in our community and then distribute funds to a priority agency or, even better, a collaboration of organizations, to address a need in our community.
In the story, the agency director stated they had met with some nonprofits already about this good news. He also stated that we need to do more than that and "engage more people"about those needs. Watch for your opportunity to attend meetings about this gift and get involved.
I am looking forward to following this process and seeing how these funds are used to strengthen work with our area nonprofits for the greater good.
