NEW YORK (AP) — Ronny Cedeno has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left calf, leaving the New York Mets minus yet another shortstop.
The team recalled infielder Jordany Valdespin from Triple-A Buffalo before Wednesday night’s game against Philadelphia.
Cedeno was filling in at shortstop for starter Ruben Tejada, on the DL since May 7 with a strained right quadriceps. After Cedeno went down, fill-in Justin Turner sprained his right ankle Monday and was put on the 15-day DL the following day.
Omar Quintanilla was called up and had three hits in Tuesday night’s victory over the Phillies.
