Here is a press release from the Portland Police Bureau:

This morning, Thursday May 30, 2012, at 8:50 a.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of a found snake at Southwest 5th Avenue and Market Street. The caller reported that the snake was approximately 3 feet long, brown with tan markings and that the snake “looked scared.”

Officers responded and located the snake lying in the street. With the assistance of a passerby, officers got the snake into a plastic tub and transported it to Central Precinct where Animal Control took custody of the snake.

It is not known how the snake got to Southwest 5th and Market or who owns the snake. It is not known what type of snake it is but is clearly not native to Downtown Portland.

Anyone who knows the snake owner should contact Animal Control.
