Nicole Goecke, Prairie girls cross country

Prairie girls cross country runner Nicole Goecke was selected The Columbian’s fall sports athlete of the week in a vote by fans on Facebook.

Goecke collected 30 percent of the 377 votes cast by fans to beat out Haley Wheelon of Union girls soccer. Wheelon had 28 percent.

Goecke, a junior, won her second regional championship, easily winning on the course at American Lake Golf Course in Tacoma in 18 minutes, 46 seconds, leading the Falcons to the regional team title.

Other nominees included Washougal cross country runner Sean Eustis, Mountain View tennis players Trevor Jones and Colton Reed, and Abbie Younkin of Camas volleyball.
