Maysonet leads Stony Brook by VMI 45-7

STONY BROOK, N.Y. (AP) — Miguel Maysonet rushed for three touchdowns and Kyle Essington threw for three to lead Stony Brook to a 45-7 victory over Virginia Military Institute Saturday night.

The Seawolves (9-1, 5-0 Big South) were in command throughout the evening. Maysonet carried the ball 20 times for 149 yards. He scored on a 16-yard first-quarter run, then added short touchdowns of 1 and 2 yards in the second. At halftime, Stony Brook led 28-0.

Effington was just as effective and efficient. He completed 12 of 17 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns. All three went to Kevin Norrell: a 5-yarder in the first quarter, an 11-yarder in the second and a 41-yarder early in the fourth to put the Seawolves up 42-7. Effington didn’t throw an interception.

With Marcus Coker running for 139 yards, Stony Brook outrushed VMI 309-148. The Keydets (2-7, 1-4) had 162 total yards to Stony Brook’s 475.
