Didn’t matter if it was in 3A or 4A, the Camas High School girls cross country team dominated.

Four Papermakers finished in the top 15 to help the program capture the state championship for the second year in a row. Alexa Efraimson finished first place individually with a time of 17:34.2. She beat defending champion Jordan McPhee of Mount Rainier by more than 40 seconds.

Washougal senior Sean Eustis outkicked two runners to the finish line for fourth place with a time of 15:39.7. Isaac Stinchfield notched ninth (15:49.3) and Thomas Normandeau took 50th (16:55.4).

The Camas boys cross country team settled for ninth place at state. Andrew Kaler was 35th (16:14.1), Andrew Duffy finished 41st (16:16.8) and Tucker Boyd grabbed 50th (16:22.4). Riley Hein (16:48.1), Zach Hein (16:51.6), Taryk Boyd (17:04.8) and Oliver Stanchfield (17:11.4) also paced the Papermakers.

The Washougal girls enjoyed their first state championship race. Paige Roberts led the Panthers with a time of 21:30.2. Meredith Collins broke the school’s freshmen record in 21:36.1. Yaneli Martinez (21:45), Hannah Wright (21:54.6), Karina Miller (23:05.3), Megan Anderson (23:32) and Brooke Croeni (23:53.4) left it all on the course.

Making a bigger splash

The Camas football, volleyball, swimming and soccer teams are going to state their first year in 4A.

Camas football pounded South Kitsap 43-12. Nate Beasley rushed for 178 yards and scored three touchdowns. Reilly Hennessey threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns. Zach Eagle snagged an interception and a touchdown catch. John Norcross and Jorden Payne also had touchdowns, and Adam Dawson added a safety.

Camas volleyball beat defending state champion Olympia 23-25, 23-25, 25-17, 25-21, 15-9. The win propelled the Papermakers to state for the ninth year in a row. Brindl Langley delivered 24 kills and 21 digs. Lauren Harris added 14 kills. Camas reached the finals of the regional tournament, but lost to Bellermine Prep in three games.

The Camas girls swimmers torpedoed Union 366-344 for the district championship. Anna Panebianco and Juileann Reed each won two individual races. They also helped the Papermakers win the 200-meter freestyle relay race.

Camas soccer beat Federal Way 2-1 to clinch a state berth. Teylen Sheesley and Mika Norrish netted the goals for the Papermakers.
