CHENEY, Wash. (AP) — Vernon Adams’ 9-yard touchdown run with 8:13 to play capped a second-half rally, and Eastern Washington blocked a late field-goal attempt Saturday to beat UC Davis 31-28 and move into a first-place tie in the Big Sky Conference.

Adams’ score came after Kyle Padron hit Greg Herd for a 51-yard touchdown to pull the Eagles (8-2, 6-1) within 28-24. Later, UC Davis lined up to attempt a game-tying 52-yard field goal with 44 seconds left, but David Gaylord blocked it to seal the win.

EWU’s Demitrius Bronson finished with 63 yards rushing and two first-quarter touchdowns. That gave the Eagles a 14-3 lead before the Aggies (3-7, 2-5) scored 21 unanswered points on Randy Wright’s 72-yard touchdown pass to Corey Galindo and Dalton Turay’s two short scoring runs.

The Eagles are now tied with Northern Arizona and Montana. All three teams finish their regular season next week.
