CHICAGO (AP) — Josh Crittle had 15 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots on Sunday and Illinois-Chicago defeated UC Riverside 59-52.
Joey Miller scored 14 points and Gary Talton and Hayden Humes added 10 points apiece for the Flames (1-1).
Chris Patton and Josh Fox scored 10 points apiece for the Highlanders (1-1). Fox also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
Patton scored the game’s first basket, but that was the only lead for Riverside. UIC scored the next 14 points and did not trail again. Humes scored all 10 of his points in that run with Crittle getting the other two baskets.
The Highlanders only trailed 30-25 at the half, and came within three points twice near the finish, but Talton made three of four free throws in the final 2 minutes to seal the win for the Flames.
