The state has received a $639,000 one-year grant to enhance mental health care for foster children.

The grant will allow the Department of Social and Health Services to partner with the University of Washington to streamline and standardize processes that identify and refer children for services; increase capacity for care; and coordinate care between mental health professionals and child welfare workers.

Foster children are at high risk of mental health problems resulting from the emotional trauma from abuse and/or being taken from their homes.
