William & Mary erases deficit, tops Liberty 71-59

LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Brandon Britt scored 21 points and William & Mary overcame a 15-point halftime deficit to topple Liberty 71-59 Saturday in a nonconference affair.

Liberty (0-2) led 38-23 at the half, closing out the frame on an 8-0 run capped by a last-second jumper from Davon Marshall.

The Tribe (2-0) blitzed out of the break with a 12-1 scoring run bolstered by six points from Britt and a 3-pointer from Tim Rusthoven.

William & Mary took a 43-41 lead with 12:13 to play on a 3-pointer by Britt, marking its first lead since midway through the first half.

The Flames trailed 59-56 with 2:40 left, but Britt scored six consecutive points to put the Tribe up nine with 1:32 left.

Britt was 6 of 8 from the field and 8 of 13 on free throws.

Tavares Speaks led Liberty with 15 points on 6-of-13 shooting.
