VMI routs Central Pennsylvania 116-81

LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) — Nick Gore and D.J. Covington both recorded double-doubles in Virginia Military Institute’s 116-81 rout of Central Pennsylvania on Tuesday in the home opener for the Keydets.

Covington and Brian Brown tallied 20 points for VMI. Rodney Glasgow posted 17 points and nine assists, Stan Okoye and Nick Gore added 16 points apiece, and Tim Marshall came off the bench for 10 points. Covington and Gore each pulled down 13 boards.

VMI (1-2) led 52-36 at intermission and shot 58.1 percent (25 of 43) after the break en route to a 64-45 second-half scoring advantage.

VMI outrebounded Central Penn (4-1) 54-42 and forced 27 turnovers. The Keydets scored 35 points off those errors.

Despite a strong outing from its bench (30 points), Central Penn struggled from the free throw line, shooting just 38.1 percent (8 of 21).

Devon Dorsey led Central Penn with 21 points.
