Beans, Stevens lead Holy Cross past Maine 57-54

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Phil Beans scored 19 points and took down 8 rebounds to lead Holy Cross to a 57-54 victory against Maine in the Crusaders’ home opener on Wednesday night.

Jordan Stevens contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Crusaders (3-1), members of the Patriot League. Dave Dudzinski added 10 points and 9 rebounds for Holy Cross, which leads the series 7-1.

Alasdair Frazier led the Black Bears (0-2) with 21 points and 15 rebounds, and Xavier Pollard chipped in with 14 points and 8 rebounds for Maine, members of the America East Conference.

Both teams shot poorly, with Holy Cross hitting only 29 percent (18 of 62) from the field to Maine’s 29.2 percent (19 of 65). The poor shooting led to a lot of rebounds, with Maine holding a 48-44 advantage.
