James’ 25 points propels Colgate over Marist 74-60

HAMILTON, N.Y. (AP) — Brandon James scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds as Colgate defeated Marist 74-60 Wednesday in a nonconference affair.

Pat Moore had 15 points and Murphy Burnatowski added 12 for Colgate (1-2). The Raiders shot 47 percent (27 of 58) from the field and 5 of 11 from 3-point range, with James (2), Burnatowski (2), and Moore (1) accounting for all five makes.

Marist (0-2) scored the game’s first four points and held a 6-3 lead after Adam Kemp hit a jumper. But Colgate used a 26-5 run to go ahead 29-11. James, who scored nine points during the spurt, capped the run with a 3-pointer.

Colgate continued its run after halftime, opening up a 52-37 second-half lead after John Bradenburg’s jumpshot.

Marist cut the deficit to nine, 56-47, with 9:34 remaining but the Raiders reeled off seven straight points to put the game away.
