Florida Gulf Coast overwhelms NAIA Ave Maria 86-54

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — Christophe Varidel scored 17 points, leading four Florida Gulf Coast players in double figures as the Eagles rolled over Ave Maria 86-54 Thursday night.

Sherwood Brown added 13 points, and Chase Fieler and Bernard Thompson scored 11 each as Florida Gulf Coast (2-1) shot 54.5 percent (30 of 55), making more than half of its shots in each half.

DaJuan Graf came off the bench to score nine points and dish out seven assists for the Eagles, who defeated Miami 63-51 on Tuesday night. Eric McKnight blocked four shots.

Florida Gulf Coast shot 57.9 percent (11 of 19) from 3-point range to 33.3 percent (6 of 18) for Ave Maria.

Matt Chatin, with 10 points, was the only scorer in double figures for the Gyrenes (3-0), who counted this game as an exhibition.
