Gamecocks DE Clowney out against Wofford

Published:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney will not play against Wofford because of a sprained foot that’s bothered him most of the season.

Clowney was not dressed in his uniform before pregame practice. He has not practiced this week, but defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward has said Clowney hasn’t practiced much the past few weeks yet still played.

The 12th-ranked Gamecocks are facing a Football Championship Subdivision opponent and have rival Clemson coming up next week.

Clowney is a 6-foot-6, 256-pound sophomore who’s third in the Southeastern Conference with 812 sacks. Chaz Sutton is starting in Clowney’s place.
