Hall, Williams lead Wichita St. past Howard 69-50

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Carl Hall and Demetric Williams had 11 points apiece and Wichita State scored the final 21 points of the first half en route to a 69-50 victory over Howard University on Saturday in a Cancun Challenge game.

The Shockers (4-0) led 16-14 with 7:27 left in the half when Even Wessel hit a 3-pointer to start Wichita State’s surge.

Howard (0-3) was 0 for 7 from the field during that span and committed eight turnovers to fall behind 37-14 at halftime.

Wichita State emptied its bench in the second half.

The Bison rebounded to shoot 41.5 percent from the floor but finished with 27 turnovers. Mike Phillips scored 12 points, Alphonso Leary 11, and Prince Okoroh and Simuel Frazier 10 each for Howard.
