MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Milton Chavis scored 18 points and tallied five of Morehead State’s 19 steals as the Eagles beat Lafayette 88-74 on Sunday.

Chavis, who has led Morehead State in scoring in every game this season, made 7 of 11 shots from the field and led the Eagles in scoring despite playing only 15 minutes due to foul trouble.

With the game tied 33-all at halftime, Morehead State (3-1) opened the second half with seven straight points to take a 40-33 lead.

Lafayette (1-3) knocked down consecutive 3-pointers to close the gap to 40-39, but Chavis responded with back-to-back 3-pointers of his own to put Morehead State up for good.

Kelly Drew had 12 points, Bakari Turner added 11 and Angelo Warner posted 10 for Morehead State.

Joey Ptasinski led Lafayette with 23 points and Seth Hinrichs added 17 but the Leopards turned the ball over 29 times in the loss.
