Tyler, UMKC put away Norfolk State 63-57

UNCASVILLE, Conn. (AP) — Estan Tyler scored 15 points and Thomas Staton 14 as Missouri-Kansas City defeated Norfolk State 63-57 Sunday in a consolation game at the Hall of Fame Tipoff.

Tyler sank 5 of 6 free throws in the final 47 seconds to help the Kangaroos (2-2) of the Summit League hold off the Spartans (2-3) of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.

Norfolk State used a 12-0 run, capped by a dunk by Rashid Gaston, to take a 46-44 lead with 7:45 to play.

UMKC regained a five-point margin, 55-50 with 4:16 left, after a pair of 3-pointers by Kirk Korver and a 3-pointer and a jumper by Staton. The Kangaroos made 5 of 9 tries from 3-point range in the second half.

Trinity Hall finished with 11 points and Korver 10 for UMKC.

Brandon Goode led Norfolk State with 12 points and Rob Johnson 11 for Norfolk State.
