Alcorn State falls to D-II Fort Valley State 86-78

LORMAN, Miss. (AP) — Jeremy Sledge knocked down three 3-pointers en route to 23 points as Division II’s Fort Valley State defeated Alcorn State 86-78 Monday.

Davey Brandon added 18 points and nine rebounds for Fort Valley State and also converted two 3-pointers. Brandon and Sledge combined to go 8 of 8 from the free-throw line.

Fort Valley State (2-3) jumped out to a 35-29 halftime lead behind a 54.2 percent (13 of 24) first-half shooting performance. Alcorn State shot just 32.5 percent (13 of 40) in the first half, including 0 of 7 from 3-point range.

Fort Valley State built a 52-48 second-half lead before Alcorn State rallied to tie the game 58-all with 10 minutes left. But Brandon and Sledge hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put Fort Valley State ahead 64-58. Brandon converted a three-point play after Sledge’s 3-pointer to put the game away.

LeAntwan Luckett led Alcorn State (1-2) with 17 points.
