Central Florida defeats Middle Tennessee 75-61

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Shawn Jones scored 18 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and led a second-half defensive effort as Middle Tennessee defeated Central Florida 75-61 Tuesday night.

Raymond Cintron scored 14 points for Middle Tennessee (3-1) and Neiko Hunter added 13. The Blue Raiders held UCF to 33 percent shooting after halftime. James Gallman and Marcos Knight added 11 points each.

Tristan Spurlock led UCF (3-1) with 17 points and eight rebounds. Keith Clanton added 15 points and eight boards.

Middle Tennessee scored 13 straight second-half points, 12 coming on two 3-point plays by Jones and Hunter’s two treys for a 64-50 lead with 5:59 remaining.

UCF shot 54.5 percent in the first half when the Knights built a 33-30 lead. But Middle Tennessee’s defense virtually shut down Clanton and Isaiah Sykes, UCF’s top scorers.

Clanton didn’t get a shot the first 14 minutes of the second half. Sykes was scoreless, fouling out with 6:42 left.
