A 23-year-old Ridgefield man appeared Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court on allegations of child rape.

Jeffrey Scott Boyington is accused of molesting and raping a 13-year-old boy he allegedly met in a gay networking chat room.

Boyington will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Dec. 5 after Judge Robert Lewis found probable cause Wednesday for charges of second-degree child rape, communication with a minor for immoral purposes, and luring with a sexual motive.

Lewis set Boyington’s bail at $10,000. Boyington indicated he would hire a private attorney for his defense.

A probable cause affidavit signed by a Clark County sheriff’s deputy stated that the 13-year-old victim reported that he met Boyington on a gay networking cellphone application, similar to an Internet chat site.

The suspect, who called himself “Scotty,” invited the alleged victim to meet him in person. He picked him up from his home without the consent of the boy’s parents, according to the affidavit. The suspect took the boy to his Ridgefield apartment and performed sexual acts on him, the affidavit stated.

In a recorded interview with detectives, Boyington allegedly confessed to the crimes but said he thought the boy was 14, rather than 13, according to the affidavit.
