Duquesne overpowers Youngstown State 84-74

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Quevyn Winters and Derrick Colter scored 18 points apiece, and Duquesne defeated Youngstown State 84-74 Wednesday night in the subregional round of the Progressive Legends Classic.

Youngstown State (3-3) scored the game’s first five points but Colter hit a 3-pointer, sparking a 20-4 run that put the Dukes ahead 20-9. Sean Johnson capped the run with a 3-pointer.

Duquesne (2-3) would never relinquish the lead, as the Dukes entered halftime with a 42-33 edge and held at least a six-point lead throughout the second half.

Martins Abele grabbed 10 boards in 14 minutes for Duquesne, which outrebounded Youngstown State 27-14 in the first half en route to a 53-29 rebounding advantage.

Duquesne had 19 offensive rebounds, which led to 21 second-chance points.

Kendrick Perry led Youngstown State with 15 points and Damian Eargle had 14 for the Penguins, who have lost three straight following a 3-0 start to the season.
