LOS ANGELES (AP) — A judge says an auction of Evander Holyfield’s boxing memorabilia can continue but without 12 items from the former heavyweight champion’s career.
The restricted items include Holyfield’s robes from his first fight with Mike Tyson and his Olympic bronze medal. Holyfield had sought to limit the sale of 20 items during an auction on Nov. 30 that is being organized by Julien’s Auctions.
U.S. District Court Judge Christina A. Snyder issued the ruling Wednesday, three weeks after Holyfield sued.
The president of the auction house, Darren Julien says he is confident he will the win the case and the 12 disputed items will still be sold.
Items up for sale include gloves Holyfield wore during a 1997 bout with Tyson in which part of Holyfield’s ear was bitten off.
