Slide presentation to feature change on Mount Adams
PORTLAND — A free slide presentation entitled “Time and Change on Mount Adams’’ will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mazamas Mountaineering Center, 527 S.E. 43rd Ave.
Darryl Lloyd, who has spent a lifetime hiking, climbing and photographing Mount Adams, will be the speaker.
The presentation will include historic photos featuring early explorers, sheep grazing, group climbs, the summit lookout and sulfur mining. It also will include details about tribal use of the peak, geologic events and the recent Cascade Creek fire.
Winter sports and ski fair slated Dec. 4 in Portland
PORTLAND — A free ski and winter sports fair will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 4 at Multnomah Art Center, 7688 S.W. Capitol Highway.
Organized by the Portland chapter of the Oregon Nordic Club, the event also will include a used equipment sale.
The fair will provide information about cross-country, backcountry and telemark skiing, plus snowshoeing and avalanche danger. Registration will be open for cross-country ski lessons.
Used winter clothing and Nordic gear will be on sale, but no downhill skis. Check in of sale items is from 5:10 to 6 p.m.
Port of Woodland to unveil choice for new boat ramp site
WOODLAND — The Port of Woodland will unveil its preferred site for a new boat at a public meeting beginning at 6 p.m. Dec. 5 at Woodland High School Commons, 757 Park St.
The port has been evaluating whether to build a new ramp at Martin’s Bar/Lions Day Park on the Columbia River or at Austin Point, just inside the Lewis River.
Nelson Holmberg, port executive director, and the port’s consultants will present the preferred site, preliminary design and cost estimate.
Portland Boat Show scheduled for Jan. 9-13 at Expo Center
PORTLAND — The 53rd annual Portland Boat Show is scheduled Jan. 9-13 at the Portland Expo Center.
Hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 9-12 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 13. Admission costs $10 with children age 12 and younger allow in free. Parking at the Expo Center is $8 per car, but $7 for carpools of three or more.
Parking is free from 5 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 9-11.
