Jackson scores 28, Pepperdine tops UC Irvine 72-62

MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Lorne Jackson scored 28 points to lead Pepperdine to a 72-62 victory over UC Irvine on Saturday night.

Pepperdine (2-2) also got 12 points from Stacy Davis, 11 points and five assists from Jordan Baker and 10 rebounds from Morba De Freitas.

Daman Starring scored 25 points to lead UC Irvine (3-4). He connected on six of nine 3-point attempts.

Chris McNealy chipped in with 15 points, and Adam Folker had nine rebounds.

UC Irvine fell despite having a 35-9 scoring advantage off the bench. Pepperdine had a 26-14 scoring edge in the paint.

Pepperdine was 26 of 36 from the free-throw line, while UC Irvine was 7 of 12.
