Letter: Self-defense is excusable action

I found the Nov. 15 headline "Israel assassinates Hamas military chief" very offensive. The dictionary definition of assassinate is "to murder a prominent person -- to destroy or injure treacherously."
After more than four years of Hamas firing rockets into Israel and all Israel did was send them warnings, finally Israel has executed a Hamas military chief, put to death as a legal penalty. It seems the media want to minimize all the terrorism Israel has to put up with while maximizing anything Israel does to protect itself.
